The most direct competitor to what will be the new Terre Haute Casino Resort, the Golden Nugget Danville in Danville, Illinois, about an hour north of Terre Haute off U.S. 41, receives a temporary operating permit from the Illinois Gaming Board and opened at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, during the holiday weekend, about 13 months after its groundbreaking ceremony. The new Illinois property, which currently features more than 500 slot machines and 14 table games, will be open only eight hours per day, and will be closed on Tuesdays until after the formal grand opening at a date to be determined.
