Australia-based PointsBet retains investment banker Moelis & Company to facilitate a sale of its North American operations – which includes its Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg skin – as the sports wagering industry starts to see the kind of consolidation that resulted in the disappearance of many regional and smaller national (and then larger) casino companies in the past two decades. PointsBet has largely struggled to gain market share in many states, although your favorite gaming newsletter moved the company up to the third tier of Indiana operators back in November, lumping the company in with Barstool and BetRivers, a (significant) step behind Caesars Sportsbook and BetMGM in our Tier II. Watch to see whether PointsBet is bought out by another company with Indiana operations, which could cause further changes. Like we saw when casino industry consolidation took hold, state laws might change on multiple ownership or operation.
