The Town of Vernon elects its first new mayor in two decades, with voters choosing Wayne Zamora to succeed the retiring Dan Wright who had won 10 consecutive two-year terms (Vernon is the sole municipality to hold elections in March of every odd year). Zamora, who was raised in Jennings County, only moved to Vernon 12 years ago, in the middle of Wright’s lengthy tenure.
