After Wayne County Republican Chair Gary Saunders successfully challenges two of the three candidates who filed for the Richmond mayoral nomination for not having voted in the past two Republican primary elections (Ron Oler (R) remains standing), there will be no 2023 primary in Wayne County because there are no other contested races for nomination on either side of the ballot. Officials estimate that savings could be as much as $60,000 as a result of cancelation of the primary.
