Mitchell City Councilmember Nathan Jenkins (R) is selected by a city Republican party caucus to fill the remaining 14 months of the term being vacated by Mitchell Mayor JD England (R), who is stepping down for a new job opportunity. Jenkins survived a six-round vote among a field of six, decided by only four precinct officials (and involving at least one coin toss to winnow the field). We can’t recall a larger field being decided by a smaller number of precinct officials in any race for mayor in recent years.
