Matt Oyster joins Ice Miller LLP’s Public Affairs Practice Group in an of counsel capacity, based in the firm’s Columbus, Ohio, office where he will specialize in gaming, liquor, and cannabis legal matters throughout the country. He joins the firm having most recently served as vice president of compliance at PointsBet USA. In that role, he led regulatory, compliance and licensing functions related to sports betting, iGaming, and ADW operations. Prior to joining PointsBet Oyster was the general counsel and chief ethics officer at the Ohio Casino Control Commission, serving as the agency’s principal legal and ethics advisor as well as legislative liaison. He joined the Buckeye State commission as assistant general counsel in December 2011. He then served as deputy general counsel, director of licensing & investigations and senior legal counsel, and general counsel and director of licensing & investigations. Oyster began his legal career as an assistant attorney general in the Charitable Law Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, where, he represented the state in matters concerning charitable trusts, solicitation, and bingo; the Liquor Control Act; and the Casino Control Act.
