Recall that the Indiana Gaming Commission had expressed reservations about the reputation for deep cost-cutting by Eldorado Resorts, Inc. as it was merging with Caesars Entertainment Corporation the-then owner of the Hammond, Harrison County, and the Anderson and Shelbyville properties. Mayor McDermott relates to us his concern that Caesars is “content to let Horseshoe Hammond drift … and to be second place – and maybe even third place “in the local market. “It’s not right,” Hizzoner adds when we pushed him about specifics. “They stopped spending money on acts and stopped advertising.” Hizzoner’s parting words: “I’m not content. I always want (my community) to be the best.”
